Aes rude from Ljubljana Point

Sažetak

The author gives a brief description of the bronze pieces known as aes rude, proto-currency of the Roman Empire. Considering that trade functioned throughout the Adriatic circle, some of this material was found on Croatian territory, more precisely in Ljubač Bay. The Ljubač area is about 18 km north of Zadar. Today’s village is right beside the sea stretching around Ljubač Bay. The area has been inhabited since prehistory. The first settlement was on Ljubljana Point, about 4500 m from the main road leading to Ražanac. Prehistoric Illyrian necropolises (tumuli) are known, explored by Professor Dr Šime Batović. Although the area has not been sufficiently researched, we know that the grassy point had at least two settlements. Since the point rises towards its end and finishes in a hill of about 80 m, it is here that the main settlement developed and lasted until the Ottoman conquest. There have been many chance finds in this area when the soil was washed away after heavy rainfall.
