Sažetak

The article provides a summary of the complete Dogmatic constitution Dei Verbum with the intention of answering two questions: (a) What was new in D V with respect to previous Church documents or Church teachings? (b) What has remained current of the Council's original contribution to contemporary theology and its pastoral action?
The first chapter's originality (DV 2-6) is in its approach to the reality of revelation as God's historical, salvific and friendly dialogue (communication) with people. The Council's language on the reality of revelation, categorised as a divine communication, maintains its current relevance as intelligible and relevant for a modern people who live in a time of global communications.
The second chapter (DV 7-10) made great strides in relating Tradition and Holy Scriptures with respect to their sources and findings, both being different while inseparably bound in the related forms used in transmitting revelation. This step forward by the council opened the possibility for a useful analysis of the various traditions and their dynamic relationship towards the Holy Scriptures (Old Testament Tradition and the Old Testament itself; New Testament 'apostolic' Tradition and the New Testament itself; post-apostolic Church Tradition and its relation to the Holy Scriptures). In the latter treatment of these topics, included are the analysis of the fourth chapter (DV 14-16) and fifth chapter (DV 17-20), which speak of the Old and New Testaments.
The third chapter (DV 11-13) in a new and positive treatment of the topic of inspiration, truth and interpretation of the Holy Scriptures. Investigating the linguistic, historical and spiritual context of the passages from the Holy Scripture becomes the norm for Catholic interpretation opening the path primarily for the implementation of the historical-critical as well as the interpretational methods.
The results of the third chapter, particularly at the interpretational level are important for the final pastoral chapter (DV21-26), that is, the actualisation of the Holy Scriptures in the life of the Church in its liturgy, theology and pastoral work (catechesis, preaching, biblical apostolate) and in ecumenical dialogue.
