Sažetak

Many factors are influencing international political and economical position of the countries in modern international relations. Joseph Nye`s concept of Soft Power states that in these processes rising importance lies in values and image of a country, and not in its military and economic power, or size of its territory and number of inhabitants. Defenders of Nye`s concept claim that these trends are helping smaller and poorer countries to reach their goals in international relations thus allowing them to compete with bigger and richer countries. Authors of this paper are analyzing the concept of Soft Power and trying to apply it to Croatia. They are researching possibilities and potentials which are usually included in the concept of Soft Power, and which are, or could be used by Croatia while communicating with the world with a view to strengthen its own international position and image. Authors are assessing possibility that Croatia could base the strategy of strengthening its Soft power on natural, cultural and spiritual values. By emphasizing its own specificities and qualities, we could contribute to preservation of national identity and also differentiate Croatia from its competition in struggle for implementation of political, economical and other external policy goals.
