During the 1860s, Eugen Kvaternik endeavoured to establish political collaboration with the unionists, initially with Count Julije Janković in the first half of the decade and later with Ban Levin Rauch in the second half. This paper aims to discern the basis on which this collaboration was pursued and whether the intention was genuine joint political action or merely an effort to outwit one another. The analysis focuses on the political activity of E. Kvaternik and the two most prominent unionists, Count Julije Janković and Ban Levin Rauch.
