The essay interprets, for the first time, the letter from the Croatian humanist Antun Vrančić (1504 – 1573) to the Venetian patrician and Viceroy of Cyprus Carlo Cappello (1492 – 1547) in 1546. The letter was written from Venice during Vrančić's stay with Francesco Cappello, the son of Carlo. Special attention is given to Vrančić's descriptions of Venetian traditions during the carnival and the Feast of the Ascension. Additionally, some biographical information regarding Carlo Cappello is confirmed here.
