HR-DAPA-8 Notaries of Poreč 1433/1820[1821/1841] Summary Inventory

Abstract

The Collective Fonds HR-DAPA-8 Notaries of Poreč 1433/1820[1821/1841] in custody of the State Archives in Pazin contains notarial archives created by 47 notaries with territorial jurisdiction in Poreč in the period of the four administrations (Venetian, First Austrian, French and Second Austrian). This is one of the largest collective fonds in volume of this type. Archives are arranged by provenance – i.e. by creators, in the way that archives of each notary, as an independent unit, makes a separate series. Also, an effort was made to reconstruct the primary order introduced by each notary, in compliance with the original titles attached to the archives. The beginning of the finding aid contains the Fonds description followed by the description and list of the series. Archives are arranged in accordance with the applicable notarial regulations and consequently the archives originating from the Venetian and First Austrian Administrations were divided into two sub-series: acts among the living (protocols, memoranda, deeds and extrajudicial documents) and wills (protocols, memoranda and published wills); the archives originating from the periods of the French and Second Austrian Administrations were also divided into two sub-series: office books (record file and directory) and notarial acts. The series of the Fonds were arranged in chronological order, from the oldest to the youngest notary. The number of sub- and sub-sub-series within a single series depends on the preservation of the archives of single notaries. The Fonds also contains fragmentarily preserved certificates on issuing of transcripts to clients of the County Court in Poreč, which were retained within
the Fonds for functional reasons. The archives are mainly in good material condition and therefore mostly available to users. The technical medium is primarily hand-made paper and partly parchment. The languages used in the archives are primarily the Italian language (Venetian idiom), and, to a much smaller extent, Latin and Croatian languages and the German language in only one document.
