Possibilities of wheelchair testing and prescription

Abstract

Wheelchairs are one of the most common types of durable medical equipment.
It is important to involve an interdisciplinary team in the decision-making
process, at least for the most complex wheelchair and seating components. The published literature guiding clinicians’ ability to make rational choices about what wheelchair to recommend are scarce. Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia benefits to their insured persons 14 different groups of wheelchairs. Testing and prescription of complex wheelchairs – so called tertiary wheelchairs, can be done only in University Rehabilitation Institute – Republic of Slovenia (URI-Soča) and in team. The rehabilitation team can be very effective and can improve the function and quality of life of their patients.
