Sažetak

The verb forms of the lexical roots ḥmd and ’wh reflect the dynamics of desire which take place in human beings, but also the dynamics of desire which take place in God. Although the verbs can function as synonyms, when the subject is a human being, the verb ḥmd in Ps 68:17 and the verb ’wh in Ps 132:13–14 do not act as synonyms with no discernible semantic distinctions. Corpus-based semantic analysis (with special focus on the Psalms) showed that the psalmists chose the verbs very carefully and thus did not understand both as synonyms.
