Sažetak
Investigation of Candida yeast frequency in patients with psoriasis has been done with an aim to determine their possible role as trigger factor in pathogenic process of this disease. The purpose of our study was to investigate the frequency of Candida species on skin of intertriginous areas and psoriasis lesions as well as the frequency of Candida species in stool of psoriasis patients. This study also examines a possible correlation between severity of psoriasis disease and frequency of isolated Candida species. The psoriasis patients have been divided into two groups according to clinical type of psoriasis; group with plaque psoriasis (PP) and psoriasis inversa (PI) (G1) and group with psoriasis erythrodermica (PE) and psoriasis pustulosa (PPS) (G2). The group of patients with PP and PI (G1) has been divided according to value of Psoriasis Area Severity Index test (PASI), respectively according to severity of disease into the clinical subgroup with PASI<50 and another subgroup with PASI>50. Mycological analysis of skin samples in patients of clinical group with PP and PI has shown statistically significant difference and correlation between the results of Candida species from skin and clinical type of psoriasis with PASI<50 and PASI>50. There has been found statistically significant difference as well as correlation between the results of isolated specimens of Candida species from the skin of intertriginous areas and psoriasis lesions, clinical form of psoriasis and the value of PASI score in clinical group of patients with PP and PI.
