Sažetak
Following a reform of church singing in the Dalmatian parish of Zadvarje at the end of the twentieth century, traditional local church chants disappeared from the repertoire and were largely replaced by compositions with contemporary musical features. Besides Gospin plač (Our Lady’s lament), the only traditional church folk chant preserved through oral tradition and still sung after Mass on Maundy Thursday, six additional church folk chants survive in recordings made by Josip Milić in Zadvarje on June 22, 1975, and held in the Sound Archive of the Old Church Slavonic Institute in Zagreb. The paper provides the first description of their musical and linguistic features. The musical characteristics of Zadvarje’s preserved traditional church chants correspond to the general features of Glagolitic singing. The chants are sung mostly in standard Croatian, with the Ijekavian reflex of jat and the pronoun što, although some original lyrics display local modifications.
