CORRELATION BETWEEN THE DIMENSIONS OF THREE MEASURING INSTRUMENTS FOR EVALUATION GIFTEDNESS WITH NONVERBAL INTELLIGENCE AT PRESCHOOL CHILDREN

Sažetak

Giftedness could be generally defined as complex traits that enable individuals to consistently achieve extremely above average result in one or more activities in what they are involved. In a practice, a smaller number of measuring instruments are used for determining the various aspects of preschool children’s giftedness (when they are spending time in the kindergarten). The aim of the study was to determine the correlation between the latent dimensions of three different instruments for assessing the giftedness and non-verbal intelligence of children, and to predict giftedness using non-verbal intelligence and vice versa. The occasional sample of older age preschool children was examined. The three measurement instruments are applied, to assess: general, art and musical giftedness, as same as the test Raven’s Colored Progressive Matrices (CPM). The results showed that there is a statistically significant relationship between certain aspects of the child’s giftedness. The statistically significant correlation is found between various aspects of the giftedness and child’s non-verbal intelligence. There is a significant possibility for the prediction non-verbal intelligence of the child, based on the results in some dimensions of giftedness (imagination and creativity). The possibility of a prediction of the general giftedness is possible on the basis of some parts of the instrument for measuring non-verbal intelligence of the child. However, the ability to predict artistic and musical talent on the basis of non-verbal intelligence was not statistically significant.
