Sažetak
In this paper we presented the survey results on religious tourism among 300 students of 11 faculties from the University of Split. Main goal was to define in which way student’s percieve religious tourism as special socio-cultural phenomenon and to see do they participate in this kind of tourism as a segment of general tourism offer. In the first part of the paper we discuss about development of religious tourism through the history, with the emphasis of its role in the contemporary society and in the context of modern tourism. Here we have defined notions religious tourism and religious tourist and shortly analised the differences between religious tourism and »non-specialised« tourism, understood in its general sense. In the second part of this paper we presented the survey results which showed that majority of students are little acquainted with religious tourism as particular segment of tourism offer. Results of the survey shows that knowledge of religious tourism is influenced by the sort of study, importance of the faith in students life, and the frequency of personal praying. Students of the University of Split consider that the promotion of religious tourism in Croatia is weak, and observe that notion religious tourism rarely or never appears in mass media. It is general opinion of examinees that this sort of tourism is less-developed in Croatia, and significant part of students is not at all acquainted with it. With regard to personal participation in religious tourism, it turned out that almost half of them participated in some kind of this tourism segment. This variable was influenced by sort of study, attitudes about faith, the importance of faith in the student’s life, and the frequency of personal praying, where the results were on the same trend like those concerning the knowledge of religious tourism.
