Sažetak

Croatia is a country rich in cultural monuments, important architectural and sculptural accomplishments and other forms of cultural heritage. New measuring techniques, such as Terrestrial Laser Scanning enable the gathering of information about the structures and spatial disposition of cultural heritage. Such techniques facilitate the creation of precise and reliable models. Innovative Terrestrial Laser Scans (TLS) are used for the creation of different projects related to protection of cultural heritage, mostly for the production of 3D documentation and data gathering. In that way this technology enables protection, conservation and evaluation of primarily architectural and archaeological but also other forms of cultural heritage. Information and models that result from scanning processes are useful for analyses and reconstructions in case of monument devastation. This paper presents and describes the use of the TLS technology in the creation of 3D documentation for the protection of the historic fort of Modruš. Special attention has been given to geological surveys which facilitate the analysis of the structural fabric and classification of structures and faults, determination of the models of recent tectonic movements and the layout of Gradina Hill in the structural fabric, as well as the definition of the directions of movements performed by parts of the hanging wall and footwall of the structure. During the structural and geological mapping the survey was focused on the onset of the fault around Gradina Hill and the location of the ruins of the old town. The research aimed to determine a possible influence of the present seismotectonic activities on the planned conservation works. An analysis of the conducted geological and seismotectonic surveys shows that the fault is active considering the seismic activities in the vicinity of the fault. However, due to its position in the structure along its parts, the very site of the old town of Modruš is not expected to manifest any significant displacements which might have a negative impact on its future renovation.
