Sažetak
This paper will present a historic analysis of the pedagogic literature whereby the status of students in the educational process is monitored.
The paper shows different manifestations of the student’s status within the educational process viewed through the relations of various interpersonal relations: teacher-student, student-student, or student-group of students, etc. The student, in those relations, can be viewed either in the position of the subject or object, and very rarely in the position of both the subject and object at the same time. The search for a more humane school in history went through forms of external and internal coercion or motivation of students to work, and then through attempts of reformational trends which tend to improve or abate said extremes in pedagogy introducing in their schools complete abandonment of authority and liberating it from the influence of social control.
The status of students in school has always been socially conditioned and determined, and by no means accidental. Therefore educational activity from ancient times until today has moved within the frame from human destructiveness to human constructiveness, and its historic course is depicted by this paper.
