Sažetak

The aim of this paper is to investigate the correlation between academic
achievement and social skills in primary school students (fifth and seventh grade,
N=211) and to determine to what extent the quality of developed social skills is
reflected on the academic achievement, taking into account the students's gender and
age. Average research results indicate the correlation of social skills and academic
achievements at the descriptive level, which is supported both by results of other
authors (Dautović, 2007) and respondents, who give a positive evaluation of their
skills and consider them desirable and adequately developed, and achieve better
school results. Also, girls have better school results on average and evaluate theirsocial skills more positively. However, on an individual level, within certain age and
gender groups and academic achievement, there are deviations that are not negligible.
Therefore, the academic achievement as a predictor of developed social skills within
certain age and gender groups requires further research by means of adequate
instruments and statistical procedures.
