Construction of the Disposition of learning styles rating scale for preschool children

Sažetak

The disposition of learning styles determines the way we act in our environment, the means when creating something new, the manner of communication and the method we use to learn something new.
We constructed a measuring instrument for the assessment of dispositions for preschool children learning. The main purpose of our study was a preliminary verification of the applicability of the Disposition of learning styles rating scale. In this study we used a convenient sample, from a total of 135 preschool children (69 girls and 66 boys), regular nursery school children aged from four to seven. The kindergarten teachers evaluated each child using the Disposition of learning styles rating scale. We used the Principal
Components Method to determine the structure of dimensions in the basis of different sets of research variables. We determined the items that adequately saturated each latent dimension of our scale, which correspond to each of the five dispositions of learning styles: movement, organization, discovery, interaction and creation. We also found a statistically significant positive correlation between the disposition of discovery with the movement and organization, and the correlation between interaction with the organization, and negative correlations were found between the disposition of ovement with interaction and creation. In the movement disposition we found gender differences in the prevalence of certain dispositions of learning styles (higher scores in boys) and in the dispositions of organization and interaction (higher scores in girls).
