Sažetak
The most important characteristics of adolescent are
their growth and development. The aim of this research is
to monitor development of the anthropometric
characteristics and motorical abilities of students, and to
compare it with standard and orientation
norms for the motor skills that are used in practice. In
Croatia it is not agreed which conventional
growth charts should be used to monitor growth of the
children and adolescents. Therefore, this study compares
three different growth percentile charts which are used in
practice. The prospective four-year study included a
sample of 202 subject (69 boys and 133 girls) among
students of VII. Grammar school in Zagreb. The growth of
the boys was significantly higher. The annual growth of
the body weight and height was becoming lower with increase
of the age, which is more evident among
girls, whose growth stops. There were no significant
differences in body nutrition. The mean values of
body height and weight were above the values of growth cahrts
used in practice. The differences were greater when
the charts were older or did not belong to our population.
The motor abilities of the boys and girls were developing
differently. The boys' motor abilities were significantly
better and developed continuously. The results of static
and explosive strength of girls were below the average. In
growth monitoring more recent growth charts for our
population should be used. In organization of physical
education one should be selected most appropriate
methods to improve the static and explosive strength of
the grammar students.
