The Impact of Air Transport on the Development of the Tourism of the Area of Dubrovnik

Sažetak
The paper analyses the correlation of foreign tourism demand and air transport. Air transport registers high annual growth rates worldwide, especially in the part that refer to the tourist travelling. Tourism generates the major part of the transport demand in the air traveling at the Croatian coast. The share of the air transport in the structure according to the transport means in the foreign tourist arrivals at the Croatian coast shows that air transport took the major part in the South Dalmatia that refers particularly to the Dubrovnik Airport.
In order to evaluate and forecast the potential tourist demand for the foreign tourists, the available accommodation facilities, realized tourist overnights and foreign tourist overnights according to their country of origin from 1989 to 2001 need to be analyzed to define the trends in Dubrovnik region. According the forecast values, the paper analyses the development possibilities of the Dubrovnik Airport. In the explicitly strong competition that is at the world tourism market, airports should be the important segment of the tourism destination supply.
