The Authority of the Bible In and Out of Eclipse
Gerhard F. Hasel
; Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan SAD
Sažetak
An eclipse of the Bible started some time ago. In the last quarter of the twentieth century, the nature and the purpose of the Bible is a heated subject of debate. At the heart of this debate is the subject of the authority of the Bible. The issue of the authority of the Bible is a matter so deep and broad that it is not restricteđ to any particular church, denomination, or culture. The author discusses solutions of modem liberal theology as well as the position of the neoorthodox theologians. The neoorthodoxy of K. Barth went through several
revisions while E. Brunner, R. Bultmann, H. Richard Niebuhr, G. Aulen and A. Nygren developed the theme in their own way, ultimately contradicting each other on essential points. At the end of this article the author suggests a Biblical solution. Man’s understanding of himself and the world around him is dependent upon God and the revelation that comes from Him. Man can understand and know because God, who knows ali things, has chosen to revel Himself uniquely through His inspired Scripture.
