MARKO BRAVO – THE PRIEST FROM BUDVA IN THE PROCESS OF THE VENETIAN INQUISITION (1651)

Abstract

Continuing research about Croat component in the processes of the Venetian inquisition, the author in this article examines inquiry against Marko Bravo – a priest from Budva who at that time lived in Venice. Document that contains information about this investigation
comes from 1651 and today is kept in the State Archives in Venice within the fond of Venetian Saint Offi ce (Santo Uffi zio, Savi all’Eresia). This inquiry lasted exactly two months, and the priest from Budva was accused for the indecent implementation at confessions of local female Capuchins. During the inquisition many Venetian priests witnessed in behalf of Marko Bravo; with most of them Budvan priest had contact during his work in Venice. At the end of this process, within which one can fi nd many written confessions in behalf of Bravo, Venetian inquisitors delivered liberating sentence. In addition the author serves a complete transcription of the inquiry against Marko Bravo.
