Sažetak

The aim of this study was to determine scores for plaque and gingival index on the abutments of fixed partial dentures made of Ag-Pd alloy, as well as on homologous teeth in two time intervals: 14 days after fixation and after a period of two years. The aim was also to measure the depth of gingival pockets and gingival recession after two years and to compare abutments and homologous teeth. Only 102 of the 137 patients came for a recall examination after a two year period, so measurements were made on 266 teeth out of 273, as 6 homologous teeth had been extracted during this period. The results revealed high scores for plaque and gingival index after 14 days, as well as after 2 years: P.I.=1.51 on the abutments and 1.28 on homologous teeth after 14 days; and 1.78 on the abutments and 1.37 on the homologous teeth after a period of two years; G.I. =0,98 on the abutments and 0.75 on the homologous teeth after 14 days, and 1.38 on the abutments and 0.95 on the homologous teeth after a period of two years. The increase of the scores for P.I. after two years was not significant, while the increase of scores for G.I. was significant (p<0.01) on the abutments and on the homologous teeth (p<0.05). After a period of two years P.I. and G.I. were significantly bigger (p<0.01) on the abutments of fixed partial prosthesis than on the homologous teeth. The depth of gingival pockets after a two year period had a mean value of 2.9 mm on the abutments and was significantly bigger than (p<0.01) on the homologous teeth (2.1 mm). The recession of gingiva was registered in u 23% abutments, where the mean value was 0.95 mm. The coefficient of correlation between P.I. and G.I. was bigger after a two year period (0.71) than after 14 days (0.58). It was concluded that the additional education on how to maintain oral hygiene with fixed prosthodontic appliances is necessary for our patients, as well as more frequent recall examinations for bridge hygiene.
