HERMANN THE DALMATIAN AND INTELLECTUAL REVIVAL OF THE WEST IN THE TWELFTH CENTURY

Sažetak
»Philosophy« in Hermann’s case is not only an auxiliary to the study of theology and other scholarly disciplines, but »serves as a means« of systematic orientation in his intellectual milieu, among different intellectual trends, in the dialogue with philosophic systems and theorems of theoretical and practical impact. Philosophy »had though« Hermann to intellectual discipline, because he succeeded in distinguishing terms from their verbal expressions. Hermann also observed the difference between that we usually call »reality« and that what we call »apparence«. The distinction primarily lays in that the reality is organised, that in it rule laws, while apparence does not show such order. »Reality« is, on the other hand, very complex, as is therefore Hermann’s speculation on it very complex. However, Hermann does not stay infront of that »reality« just monitoring it, he evaluates the »reality«, feels it. Hermann is overwhelmed by belief that all what is or exists in any way has right to be. Hermann’s »philosophy« is, furthermore, dialogic, the dialogue in it
meanning no compromise or a trick aimed on subverting construction of someone’s mind. But a meeting of people and an exchange of ideas in the »pool of general humanity.« Under the term »philosophy« as Hermann understands it, should be considered his attempts on explainning most diversified, still immature problems. Hermann the Dalmatian is the one who refiected, that is observed, the one who tried to bring in the darity and order in his exposition, which infact meant to bring the ration in world and life. In that sense, he was opened for all »subjects of thought« and used methods available to him at that time. Thus, Hermann infact researched the totality of the reality, because he intellectually penetrated to the root of all things.
