Sažetak
Four wild species of genus Cornus are represented in Croatia: Cornus alba, C. hungarica, C. mas and C. sanguinea.
Species C. mas and C. sanguinea are observed in all Croatian geographic-climatic regions. Species C. hungarica is observed in lowland Croatia and on the north of Mediteranian Croatia. Genus C. alba is observed in urban areas. Among listed species, only C. mas (Cornelian cherry) belongs into the group of wild edible fruit species. Its high nutritive value makes C. mas attractive for cultivation. For now, there are no cultivated Cornelian cherry in Croatia. Nevertheless, various wild Cornelian cherry products are present on the Croatian market. Except C. mas, other species have no importance in human nutrition. C. alba and C. sanguinea are breed because their esthetical characteristics such are outstanding red leaves during the autumn and bright red bursts during the winter.
