Sažetak
Stress is very common in modern life in a way that it
became almost a lifestyle, especially in urban areas.
Nowadays, job has become one of the most frequent
source of stress. People who work in sports are also under
a lot of stress and its consequences. Best results attract
sponsorships and consequently great money deals, but
also a stress as well. Individual coping strategies with
stress depend on many factors and gender is one of the
most significant. The aim of this research was to
determine differences in coping strategies between male
and female sports coaches and between coaches of
different age.
The study was conducted on 85 sports coaches, 46
male and 39 female. Coaches derive from different types
of sports, coaching athletes of different age and different
competitive level, from regional to international. The
sample of variables consists of 8 coping strategies,
measured by Croatian version of Ways of Coping
Checklist (1).
Results of ANOVA showed that male and female
coaches use different coping strategies equally frequent,
besides self-blaming strategy that is used more frequently
by female coaches. With regard to the age differences the
results showed that younger coaches more frequently use
distraction and building 'castells in the air' as a strategy for
coping with stress and problems that produced it.
