Sažetak

The aim of the paper was to analyse differences among breeds and crossbreds of pigs in field test within Croatian pig breeding programme. Following breeds and crossbreds were included into study: Large White (VJ) Landrace (L), Duroc (D), Pietrain (P) and both reciprocal crossbreds between Large White and Landrace. Data were analysed using GLM procedure from SAS software. This study included 140,996 data records of young boars and gilts from 1998 to 2014. Significantly lowest values (P<0.05) for backfat thickness compared to other breeds were found in Pietrain breed. The highest value for backfat thickness was found in crosbreds between Large White and Landrace. Landrace breed had significantly thinner backfat than Large White breed, while no significant differences were found between Landrace and Duroc. Phenotypic trendsfor backfat thicknesswere negative,implying successful selection for analysed trait within Croatian pig breeding programme.
