Opportunities and constraints of agrotourism development - case study in Istria

Sažetak

Istria is an area with a highly developed tourist offer, in which agrotourism as a specific form of rural tourism plays an important role. The aim of this paper is to identify opportunities and basic constraints of agrotourism development in terms of Istria. The analysis is based on the research of selected agrotourist economy - case study. The study showes that the business of selected agrotourism is based on its own agricultural production, family labor force, knowledge and education, cooperation with partners in the region, authentic cuisine with a diversified range of supporting services and appropriate marketing. The main constraints of further development are reflected in the administration and the legal framework that governs the management and in the lack of favorable budget funds sources. As a constraint for further development there is also insufficient education of service providers in specific knowledge (e.g. marketing) and (non)availability of these types of education.
