STUDENT BUSINESS INCUBATOR: AN INSTITUTIONAL PERSPECTIVES OF NEW VENTURES

Sažetak
Nascent entrepreneurs are an essential link in the revitalization of the Croatian economy and in generating new jobs. However, they still belong to the “vulnerable” group which lacks adequate knowledges and skills in order to successfully start and run a new venture. For this reason, it is necessary to support them in all phases of the entrepreneurial process - from identification of business idea, through financing, to entering the market. The paper is based on the hypothesis that the student business incubators represent a proactive approach to the entrepreneurial process, enabling young people for independent entry into entrepreneurship after graduation. The worldwide experience shows that incubators which operate at higher education institutions are one of the most developed systems to support new businesses. Their major role is focused on providing professional and advisory assistance to strengthen the student population for entrepreneurial thinking and acting, that is, starting and running a business. Student business incubator VUPI was established on 20th of November 2013 at the University of Applied Sciences “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar in order to promote entrepreneurship and self-employment among the youth. The project was realized with the financial support of the Ministry of Enterpreneurship and Crafts of Republic of Croatia through the activity D1.2. Academic entrepreneurship - knowledge for the economy, program for stimulating entrepreneurship and crafts - “Entrepreneurial impulse” for 2013. The aim of this paper is to point out the role and importance of the incubator in its local community with particular emphasis on young people who can achieve their potential and existence in the Vukovar-Sirium County with proactive and entrepreneurial action.
