Sažetak

On the Island of Svetac (Croatian littoral, archipelago of Vis) 344 species of autochthonous, higher plants have been found so far. They were the subject of geographical and life-form analyses.
The results of the geographical analysis show that a great number of the plants belong to the Mediterranean floral element (216 species, 62,8°/o), out of which 147 species are circummediterranean plants (Fig. 1). Other plantgroups of the Mediterranean floral element as well as the plants of South European floral element and other wide spread plants indicate a highly varied structure of the Island of Svetac flora.
Illyrian-Mediterranean plants are also of particular importance, especially the stenoendemies of the Middle Dalmatian island-area, which show the isolation factor that has been influencing the flora formed in the area. They also suggest the connection between the Island of Svetac flora and the one from the Balkan and Apenine peninsulas.
On the island of Svetac there are many West Mediterranean species as well as some others, also spread on a wide area in the Mediterranean region, which are otherwise very rare in the flora of Yugoslavia. This may be a result of the historical and geographical isolation of this island.
Biological floral spectrum (Fig. 2.) is indicative of recent climatic conditions. The climate is very dry there, and some characteristics make it even semiarid. Especially the percentage of therophytes (49,4%) and hemicryptophytes (18,6%) support this fact.
