Sažetak

On the basis of the analysis of the production of the most important mussel species as well as the total mussel production in the world the conclusion can be made: 1 . According to the statistics out of 13 species of mussels studied only 3 give 91% of total mussel production. 2. The species of the sea mussel Nei achieved the basic index of the outstanding 20,400 as well as the average annual rate of 46,21%. The same species achieved the great increase in production owing to considerable production range but also to the greatest producer, China, that produced 94% of the total species production in 1989. 3. The species Mediterranean mussel had a significant increase in production at the annual rate of 25,41%, In spite of a relatively small production range the same species increased the total production from 1,06% in 1975 to 10% in 1989. 4. The most wide-spread species (found in almost every sea of the world), Blue mussel during the observed period increased from 40 to 60% of the total world production (1975 = 68,6%, 1989 = 40%). Besides the constant decrease in relative representation in the total production, the same species increased the production at the average annual rate of 3,24%. 5. The total mussel production has an increase tendency (the average annual increase rate 7,3%) and in the observed 15 years it has trippled. 6. European countries have the greatest production per capita, but the greatest part of the world mussel production is located in the Far East where the greatest world producers are (China, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, New Zealand).
