LODGING OF MAIZE CAUSED BY PARASITES

Abstract
During the past decade and today also ,the maize has been frequently to varicus diseases. One of most wirdespre ad and economically most important disease is the parasite ding of maize, which is caused by the stalk rot. This type of disease presents in self as a serious problem in cultivation of maize not only in our country but everywhere in the world where maize is cultivated. The disease is of a complex character. Various kinds of fungi cause the disease more often than bacteria. The paper deals with the consequences of the damage caused by the disease and its economic significance, pathogens and symptoms which appear on the diseased stalk, as well as possibilites of control of the disease. Apart from utilization of argotehnical measures, special attention chould be paid to the resistance problem ring and creation of resistant high yielling hybrids. Therefore the Maize Research Institute is engaged in research on the resistance of lines and hybrids in conditions of artificial inoculation and the selection of the best.
