Sažetak

There is about 275.000 ha of vineyards in Yugoslavia. The larger part of the grapevine plantings belongs to the internal, and the minor one to the coastal grape growing area. Throughout the internal, and especially throughout the coastal grape growing area the factors: climate, topography, soil and management of the vine yards are the facters affecting soil erosion. The amount of precipitation and intensity of rains (Table 1), as well as rainfall distribution are important factors in the internal and very important ones in the coastal area in affecting soil erosion. Sites for grapevines plantings are mostly or slope (Figure 1 and 3); facing sout, west or earst. Therefore topographic factors affect soil erosion, also. The low organic matter content, low fertility and the textural features of the soils in the ,vineyards contribute to their erodibity. The land use and management of grapevine plantings is the most responsible soil erosion factor. The rows of plantings used to be laid out incorectly (figure 1 and 3). Sloping and steep sites are subjected to intensive cultivation up and down throughout the life of the grapevines without soil conservation practice. The investigation of the interrelationships of the factors afore-mentioned in the area of Konjic has shown that a great deal of the soil in vineyards has been severely eroded in a period of about 50 years (Figure 4). The progressive intention for soil conservation of the country, as well as the development of viticulture in Yugoslavia have to be accomplished by the soil conservation and erosion control program in grapevine plantings. To accomplish this program it should be developed soil erosion as well as soil conservatio research.
