Sažetak
Due to an increased resistance of pests to synthetic pesticides and stricter environmental legislation intrest in natural insecticides has been expanding continuously in recent years. Pyrethrins, the economically most important of natural insecticides are derived from flower heads of Dalmatian pyrethrum (Tanacetum cinerariifolium /Trevir./ Sch. Bip.). Dalmatian pyrethrum is a perennial herb native to Croatia. lts powder prepared form the dried flower heads has been used as natural insecticide for centuries in traditional Croatian farming systems. Nowadays, Dalmatian pyrethrum is cultivated mainly at higher altitudes in tropical countries such as Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda. A systematic scientific research concerning Dalmatian pyrethrum has been started recently in the framework of the scientific project named "Croatian Bank of Plant Genes HBBG". The aim of the project is collection of local populations, introduction of newly developed cultivars, characterization, evaluation and documentation. The paper reviews the history, systematics, botany, agrotechnics, and processing of dalmatian pyrethrum.
