Sažetak
A seed as the main component of agronomy and plant propagation, along with its components has been defined. We have described its appearance, formation and development. In addition, we have explained the endosperm development in angiosperms and gymnosperm seeds, as well as the stages of the embryo formation in monocots and dicots after the fertilisation. Physiology of seed development has also been addressed in the paper. Furthermore, special attention has been given on the environmental effects on seed development, such as mineral nutrition, soil moisture and rainfall, temperature, and light.
