Sažetak

Dyslexia is defined as a specific reading and writing difficulty with an emphasis on the difficulties of coding and decoding. The paper states the difficulties that students with dyslexia have while learning a foreign language. The paper surveys research that has dealt with the influence of the mother tongue on learning a foreign language among students with diagnosed dyslexia, along with the impact of foreign language orthography when learning a foreign language. Orthographic transparency is defined as the predictability to pronounce a word in regard to its written form. The difference between transparent and non-transparent orthography is described and the influence of non-transparent orthography on foreign language learning is examined. Suggestions how to deal with dyslexic children are given at the end of the paper.
