Sažetak

The concept widely known as ‘From the spoon to the city’ refers to design at all scales for urban context and is often loosely attributed to Ernest Nathan Rogers. This article aims to reconstruct the origin of this slogan in a broader historical context. The title of this article alludes to its evolution across Buckminster Fuller’s work. The article gives an overview of the theoretical concept of ‘comprehensive design’ and presents some ideas in design practice that owe their origin to it. The purpose of this article is to gather all elements that shaped its evolution, critically evaluate them, and put the overall concept in the context of the contemporary issues in urbanism, architecture, and design.
