Sažetak

This paper starts from the presumption that there is not an a priori immediacy in visualexpression. This immediacy is achieved only intermediately – by means of metaphor. Methods oftransmitting aesthetic and ethical values (kalokagathia) in elements and principles of visual arts,in music, dance and other forms of artistic expression are predominantly based on metaphoricallanguage – a visual language. It is not about metaphor in its narrow sense, denoting a figureof speech belonging to the category of tropes. It is rather about the notion of transferring(metapherein) as a methodical approach – from the initial introduction of motifs and topics toproviding motivation for creative work. Encouraging and correcting is also much more effectiveif it is done by means of analogies and allusions. Furthermore, metaphor functions as a devicewhich helps to overcome and prevent „bad images“, such as prejudice, stereotypes and lackof originality. Next to elaborated educational and upbringing strategies, visual arts pedagogyand andragogy still seek the answer to the question of transmission and mediation of images assystems of vital humanistic values. This paper analyses methods of transmission on two levels:1. while working in person with pupils, 2. while working in person with students who are tobecome teachers.
