Sažetak

The scope of this paper covers work performance management in small businesses. Since there is no unified performance management definition that encompasses all elements that make up a complete performance management system, there is no unique view of what would be an overall performance management system in small businesses or what the existence of performance management system depends on in small businesses. Work performance management is often perceived as a process that is carried out when needed and without continuity. Furthermore, formal elements that make up a complete performance management system are not developed, which is especially true for management of small enterprises. The issue of work performance management stems from the previously mentioned situation, with the aim of explaining and emphasizing the importance of performance management in small businesses, as well as showing performance management in small businesses as entrepreneurs' management tool. In the first part of the work, the terms of performance management and functions that make up a complete performance management system are defined, which should not be significantly different in terms of the enterprise size. The second part of the work specifies performance management in small businesses. The role and importance of entrepreneurs in the process of performance management and certain differences in performance management in small enterprises are explained in relation to medium and large enterprises. The third part explains the basic performance management elements without which a small company can hardly have an impact on business. Part four refers to trends in performance management and gives an overview at the situation in the Republic of Croatia. The conclusion summarizes the basic theses of the work.
