INFLUENCE OF BUSH BEANS SEED QUALITY ON GERMINATION, GROWTH AND GERM DVELOPMENT
J. Haramija
Sažetak
Homogeneous and good quality seeds of bush bean are the most important for successful production. The aim of this research was to determinate the influence of seed size and homogeneity of bush bean on germination, energy of germination, the strength and weight of germ and the root length. In practice it is important to know which seed fraction in the batch of beans germinates better and which one poorer.
The research included three seed fractions dvided according to the seed diameter (6,0 mm, 6,0 – 6,5 mm and 6,5 mm) and noncalibrated seeds. After 4 days of testing the large seed fraction had significantly the shortests hypocotyls, while after 7 days testing large seed fraction had significantly the longest hypocotyls. After 4 days of germination the small seed fraction produced the hypocotyls of significantly the smallest weight, while after 7 days testing the large beans had significantly the heaviest germ. Differences in radicle length after 4 and 7 days testing were not statistically significant. The medium seed fraction had significantly the highest germination and energy of germination, while the large seed fraction had significantly the poorest germination and energy of germination.
