PROPOSED WINE-GROWING AND WINE PRODUCTION DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES IN THE SPLIT AND DALMATIA COUNTY

Sažetak
Agricultural production in the Split and Dalmatia county is burdened with problems and time, financial means and above all flexible development strategies are needed that will take care of the environment and encourage competition and improvement in all activities from education to organization and improvement of production methods together with development of support and marketing systems. Unfortunately there is not much time left for sorting out the situation in this field and the rules are dictated by the processes of globalization and the approaching membership in the EU. This is strongly manifested in the sector of production, distribution and consumption of wine and wine products. The production is characterized by small holdings, poor land utilization, inadequate age structure and education of agrarian population, insufficient financial means and support, unorganized market, low productivity, inadequate measures of agrarian policy such as loans system, encouragement, protection of domestic production, land policy poorly equipped systems of administration, science and organization that accompany this branch of economy. In spite of difficulties, the development of agricultural production is possible. Food has a large share in the consumption of goods in general (over 30%) and is today imported; tourist demand is increasing from year so quality products will find their place in exports as well. Realizations of these goals must be a motto for better organized and more active approach to solving the problems, making up for the lost time and contributing to the growth of standard of agrarian (and general) population of the County.
