Sažetak

The study investigated the relationship between physical and third-order factor analytic strata. Furthermore, the stability in the factor structures between pre and post physical fitness program testing was examined using orthogonal and oblique rotations. Physical fitness and personality data were collected on 56 middle-aged males. Using the principal axis form of solution, the fitness and personality variables were factor nalyzed and rotated orthogonally and obliquely. As a result five second-stratum factors were extracted both initially and finally. Factor scores were estimated for each subject and the data were factor analyzed to extract the third-stratum factors. The second stratum factors closely resembled Catell's factors, however, subtle differences were found to exist between initial and final factor structures which may have been due to the influence of the fitness program. Two third-stratum factors were extracted initially and three finally and they were rotated orthagonally and obliquely. It was found that physical fitness was associated with two hierarchical factors both initially and finally. The hierarchical factor structures appeared to be comparable to the scales of Eysenck. On the basis of the findings, it was concluded that the problem of rotationwas not of importance and the hierarchical factor solutions were highly stable. Further, it would appear that the hierarchical levels of personality are manifested in two syndromes confounded by "traits" and "states" of personality. These two syndromes are Introversion - versus Extroversion and Neuroticism - versus - Emotional Stability. The extraction of other additional factors such as Low Superego Strength - versus - High Superego Strength, in our case, is completely dependent upon the treatment or conditions superimposed.
