Comparision between normal and educable mentally retarded preadolescent children in motor performance

The major objective of this study was to determine the differences, if any, among four preadolescent groups of intellectual abilities in the performance of eleven selected motor variables. In making a general comparison between the motor performance of educable mentally retarded and normal children it could be concluded from the evidence obtained that in eight of the eleven variables there are marked differences in favor of the normal children. In each of the eleven variables retarded children differ markedly in performance from children of either high, or medium intelligence. However, in three of the eleven items, namely, standing broad jump; hopping in place, 1 right and 1 left; and arms' coordination in 6 counts the educable mentally retarded group are not shown to differ from the normal low intellectual group.
