Sažetak

Ten tests of weight-lifting and three track-and-field activities (shot-put, discus throw and javelin throw) were measured on the sample of 50 physical education students.
After the latent structure of weight-lifting tests was established, the regression relationships between these tests as a set of predictor variables and the results in the shot-put, discus throw and javelin throw as criteria were calculated. Also, the regression relationships between latent dimensions of weight-lifting and the results in the three track-and-field activities were established.
On the basis of the results it could be concluded that there exist two topological components of latent ability of weight-lifting, interpeted as absolute strength of the upper and absolute strength of the lower extremities.
The prediction of results in the shot-put, discus throw on the basis of ten manifest weight-lifting variables was possible, although the prediction power was not equal for each event. The difference in the weights of the throwing devices and the specificity of the movements of each throwing event influenced the results in such a way that the three events the most predictable results were achieved for the shot-put, with the results of the discus throw somewhat less predictable and of the javelin throw considerably less predictable.
The relationship between the latent dimensions of weight-lifting and track-and-field throwing events have the same characteristics and the same causes as the relationships between the manifest variables of the weight-lifting and throwing events.
The absolute strength of upper extremities is highly correlated with all of the investigated throwing events, while the absolute strength of the lower extremities is highly correlated only with the shot-put results and not so closely with discus and javelin throw results
The first reason for the established relations could be explained by the fact that the shot-put requires be explained by the fact the shot-put requires almost equally engaged lower and upper extremities. Secondly, the physical education students, the subjects in the study, were best trained in the shot-put, a factor which may have influenced the results to a considerable extent.
