Sažetak

Having used the archives of Korčula, District Authorities of Korčula, Harbour Master’s Offices of Korčula and Dubrovnik, and the Chamber of Commerce and Trade of Dubrovnik, as well as of other available literature, the author gives a survey of Korčula shipbuilders’ activities from the beginning of the Austrian rule (1815) till the early beginning of the 20th century. The author has already published something about it in the earlier treatises, but here he gives some new unpublished data.
The Korčula shipbuilding industry was at its highest in the seventies of the mentioned century. This period was known as »the golden age of sailing ships«. Shortly after, in the Austria-Hungarian Monarchy, sailing ships were pushed back by steamers more and more, and so hard times for Korčula shipbuilders came. In such conditions they orientated themselves to the construction of smaller crafts and boats, in which they had rather good results. Shipbuilders used to immigrate from Korčula to other littoral regions of Austria in the 19th century. The author gives more data about it.
Besides shipbuilding statistic data, given mostly in tabulated lists, the author gives the names of numerous Korčula shipbuilders in the 19th century. At the end a list of ships built in Korčula in the same century is given too. The list was made according to the Austrian annual »Annuario marittimo« and other sources.
