Sažetak
This is the text of a conference given by the author to studente and professors of Catholic Faculty of Theology in Djakovo on 20 March 2007. He compares selected pericopae of original Hebrew and Greek texts of four different Old Testament books and four New Testament writings with the Bible translation into Croatian published in Zagreb in 1968 and with amended translation of lvan Šarić which was published for the first time in Sarajevo 1942-1943 in three volumes. Its second edition was in Madrid in 1960 in one volume and the third in Zagreb 2006 also in one volume. He concludes that Šarić 's amended translation is trust worthy and readable. Šarić's Croatian 2006 version has been harmonized with the modern standard Croatian language when language politics is no longer being artificially reconciled with the life of Croats in the former common state of South Slavs. Although nowadays most Bible translations are being prepared by a team of translators and language experts, one of the merits of one person's translation is its language and balance of style.
