Sažetak
This article presents an analytical overview of Zogović’s views about the nature and function of literature and art in general. We have therefore taken into consideration the articles published before World War II in order to explore the relationship with Avant-Garde’s reality and the social realist literal act, having in mind a poetics whose cross-section can be viewed synchronically.
The purpose of the analysis of Zogović’s texts is reflected in the fact that principles of his immanent poetics are comprehensively discerned on the basis of explicit poetics. Zogović’s literary beliefs, modeled according to Aristotle, were proclaimed as a kind of synthesis of ethical and aesthetic code that should be strived for by all literary workers shuttling between literature and society in the tumultuous historical period.
New realism, social realism, critical realism or artistic realism, as Zogović usually names it in his essays, interprets everything that is actual at the moment of portrayal, therefore corresponding to reality models. A high level of engagement of the new realism is achieved through utilitarian tendency that unites all authors who mediate between the presented and the expected. All that is displayed refers to the overall objectivity that has origins in empirical reality and everything belonging to the recipient’s horizon is expected, therefore it is understandable why formation of poetic and prose material must be effective; namely, acting as socialist realism. Zogović’s theory of reflection intends that every cognition is a reflection of reality, which implies that literature is truer if it verifies what could happen according to the principles of probability and necessity. In the tripartite communication author-work-reader the dialogue had to be affirmative because the target group was related to the masses and therefore the redundancy should have been preserved, which was not difficult considering the fact that the central objectivity belonged to the real world existence.
Believing that the newly created metatextual realism is in a positive dialogue with the original realism, Radovan Zogović takes his position that literature as collateral creative system must be showing and thus challenging concrete things and phenomena, as objective verbal design has didactic function as well.
