Sažetak

The relationship between situational-motoric abilities and performance in volleyball was investigated in a groups of 54 students of the Faculty of Physical Education in Zagreb.
The set of predictive variables consisted of seven situational-motoric factors which had been determined from the results obtained by the subjects in 24 situational-motoric tests. The factors were defined as:
1. precision of hitting and passing in the ball with the fingers (PPR)
2. precision of hitting and passing the ball with the forearm (PPD)
3. precision of serving (PSR)
4. precision of smashing (PSM)
5. power of hitting the ball (SOD)
6. speed endurance of volleyball players (IZD)
7. speed of movement of volleyball players(BKR).
The set of criterial variables consisted of the evaluations of six component and independent judges who awarded points to the subjects for eight elements of the game:
1. technique (TEHNIK)
2. tactics in attack (NAPAD)
3. tactics in defence (OBRANA)
4. creativity (STVARA)
5. responsibility (ODGOVO)
6. commitment (ANGAZI)
7. behaviour (PONASA)
8. overall performance (OPCOCJ).
The results were subjected to quasicanonical analysis (OCR) adn quasiregressional analysis (SRA). Only a single pair of quasicanonical factors was obtained a relatively high (.77) quasicanonical correlation and relatively high quasimultiple correlations were also obtained between the set of situational-motoric abilities and individual evaluations of performance (in the range .58-79.).
The results show that the greatest contribution to explaining performance is given by the power with which the ball is hit (interpreted as basic mastery of technique), precision of hitting the ball with the forearm and precision of serving. A considerably lower contribution is made by the factor of speed movement and that of speed endurance.
The situational-motoric abilities provided most explanation for the evaluations of overall performance, creativity, tactics in attack and defence and responsibility, and considerably less for evaluations of commitment and behaviour of players.
In the subsequent phas oef the investigation it will be necessary to redefine evaluations of play and to develop methods with to obtain them in order to cover what is, in effect, a multidimensional system.
