Sažetak

The sample of 279 healthy women, aged 19 to 27, was analyzed under the Hotelling's (1936) bioorthogonal model of the canonical correlation analysis to arrive at the relation between a representative sample of indicators of the socio-economic status and a representative sample of anthropometric variables. A group of 31 status variables was selected in accordance with the phenomenological model of social differentation designed by Skasida and Petrovič (1972) in order to assess the position of the subjects and their parents on the socializational, institutional and sanctional subsystems. The group of 33 anthropometric variables was selected in accordance with the structural model designed by Momirović (1970) to assess the longitudinal and transversal dimensions of the skeleton, volume and body mass, as well as subcutaneous fat tissue.
Two pairs of canonical variables were statistically related by a significant coefficient to canonical correlation (0.69 and 0.60). The correlation of the first pair could be attributed to the negative effect of a high status position on the measures of skeletal dimensions and muscle mass. The correlation of the second pair was attributed to the positive effect of the cultural and economic status of the family and a favorable effect of sport on the morphological system defined by a high coefficient of the upper and lower transversal dimension of the trunk, large horizontal circumference of the head, an above-average amount of muscle mass on upper extremities and an-above average amount of fat tissue.
The results are in accord with the findings of A. Hošek, Momirović, Vukosavljević and Stojanović (1985), indicating ecosensitivety of morphological features to be higher than has so far been assumed. However, correlation generators between the sociological and morphological features in women are greatly different from these same generators in men, established in a study by A. Hošek et al. 1985 and interpreted under the Wolansky's mode (1984). It seems possible that sociological and economic factors have a different effect, or they are differently mediated, on the women's morphological system on men's.
