The physiological response at different standardised intermittent exercising protocols

Sažetak

To ascertain if the characteristics of lactate threshold (LT), threshold of acidosis (TA) and the onset of blood lactate accumulation (OBLA) could be reflected in an accurate predictable manner of the characteristics of a maximal lactate steady state (maxLAss), which could represent the background for an endurance training prescription, 8 runners participated in three tests. Two of them were classical discontinuous tests with an incremental running velocity: the first at 400 m (TEST A), and the second at 1200 m distances (TEST B). The third one was a simulation of an intermittent running training where a series of 8x2000 m was repeated 2-3 times at the velocity below, at and above the level of the maximal lactate steady state (TEST C). The results showed that an accurate prediction of the running velocity corresponded to OBLA and maxLAss based on correlations between the characteristics of TEST A and TEST B with TEST C. The heart rate, corresponding to OBLA and maxLAss, could be predicted only when TEST B and TEST C were analyzed. The blood lactate concentration and pH were not accurately predicted. The use of different threshold characteristics for an endurance training prescription seems to be unrealistic because of an inaccurate prediction of the complex physiological responses affected by different exercise characteristics.
