Sustainable Development of Agriculture and Tourism in the Context of Climate Change

Editorial Note
The scientific conference Sustainable Development of Agriculture and Tourism in
the Context of Climate Change was organized in the framework of the celebration of
the 145th anniversary of the Institute of Agriculture and Tourism in Poreč, Croatia. To
highlight the importance of such an important jubilee Department of Natural Sciences
of the Croatian Academy of Science and Art, the Academy of Agricultural Sciences
and the Institute of Agriculture and Tourism jointly organized this conference. Since
its establishment in 1875 the Institute has conducted basic and applied research in the
field of agriculture dealing mostly with Mediterranean crops such as grape and olives.
Later on, it has extended scientific activities to tourism as well.
The conference took place in Poreč on 12 November, 2020. Due to the situation
caused by COVID-19 pandemic, one half of the conference was held in vivo and the
other part as virtual event. A total of 46 presentations were held covering the subjects
of plant production, food technology, agroecology, agro-economy, animal sciences, and
social sciences.
The aim of the conference was to open discussion on the importance of agriculture
and tourism in economic development of Croatia and to develop solutions for their
sustainable improvement, keeping in mind current climate change. During the
conference special emphasis was made on the role of these sectors in economic growth
of Istria and their possibilities to contribute to particularly rural development.
The authors of the presentations were invited to prepare the complete papers for
publishing in the special issue of the Agriculturae Conspectus Scientificus and a total
of 11 papers covering all conference subjects were accepted for publishing.
The Organising and Scientific Committee would like to thank all the participants
and the reviewers whose efforts and knowledge contributed significantly to the quality
of the prepared papers.
