Underground route of the Roman aqueduct Biba – Iader*

Sažetak

This paper presents the results of recent archaeological research of a Roman-era aqueduct that supplied the colony of Iader, present-day Zadar, with water from a distant Biba spring near Lake Vrana. The excavation encompassed an underground section of the water supply system that is located in immediate vicinity of the Zadar city cemetery. It is a well preserved route consisting of deeply buried water supply construction. The gravity channel has been preserved in full cross-section representing valuable tangible heritage. Small archaeological finds are especially important as they raise a number of questions about the time of construction of the water supply system in Iader.
